A new documentary film by Bruce Shaffer & Bruce Borowsky

"Voices" is an honest, poignant film that explores

the colliding pre- and post-October 7th hopes and dreams

of a group of young Palestinians in the West Bank.

In 2022, Bruce Borowsky and Bruce Shaffer were in the West Bank town of Bethlehem leading a week-long filmmaking training program for young Palestinian men and women. The two Bruces were entrusted with the deeply personal experiences and visions the students shared on camera during their training interviews. The students enthusiastically opened up about their lives, their future, and their people’s future, and as intended, a short documentary video, "Voices of Palestine’s Future", was started. We have immense gratitude to all the class participants who spent their valuable time not only learning, but sharing their heartfelt stories.

After overcoming many production obstacles and making good progress toward completion, Israel was shaken to its core on October 7th by the Hamas attack. The ongoing tremors in Israel, and the ensuing violence in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria are reshaping the lives of all in the region. We realized we needed go back - now three years later, and during the Gaza war - to film new interviews with the same people, and record their new perspectives in a dramatically different world.

The power of before & after voices.

We returned to the West Bank in 2025 to film updated interviews with most of the original students. Our ambition remained the same: to create an honest, uncompromising portrait of these young Palestinians as they face and try to shape their future.

Core Team

The team of the two Bruces brought a lot of experience and passion to this documentary:

Producer/Director/Cameraman Bruce Borowsky is an award-winning professional filmmaker, specializing in documentary and corporate videos. His passion for travel and seeking out other cultures began when he worked as the full-time assistant to renowned National Geographic writer/adventure photographer Galen Rowell. He went on to produce the national TV series “The Climbing Show”, and is now producing award-winning documentaries, many with his Boulder, Colorado-based company, Pixel Mill Studios.

Co-producer/Writer/Photographer Bruce Shaffer is a still photographer, and on "Voices" served as the lead scriptwriter, along with assisting with the video production and post-production. Bruce divides his time between Colorado and Jerusalem, where he’s active with a variety of NGOs and for 10 years has led photography workshops for Israeli and Palestinian youth. Bruce’s work has appeared in several publications, websites, documentaries, and gallery exhibitions.
